You should visit Trenčin Castle

Ahoj everybody,

I guess you already remember my post about Pernštejn Castle and how I liked it. Well, now I have another similar recommendation.

You should visit Trencin Castle (Trenčiansky hrad) in Trencin city, Slovakia; I was planning to visit city with my wife already month ago. Finally, we did it and it was much better than expected. As soon as you get out from bus, the cast is visible from station and it is gorgeous looking!

Then you take short walk to the center - Mierové námestie, thru park. Center is also beautiful; nice cafes - restaurants, shops etc. Very clean and colorful. From center it is easy to navigate towards Castle, signs and directions are all over.

Narrow street to the castle

While you go up to the castle, there are several small historical places to visit and also restaurants with amazing view.

Ticket for entrance cost 5 and 6 euros (with and without guide). We just took a walk ourself; every next turn in the surrounding of the castle is more beautiful than another. And no matter which way you go, you will have nice view of city.

Just have to mention that, History of the castle goes back to the age of the Roman Empire, so you will feel yourself back in time; different ages.

After exploring castle, you may go back down to center and have lunch or cup of coffee. I recommend Café Sládkovič, which has raw cakes and tasty coffee options.

If you travel with kid(s), there is place called Fontána vodníka Valentína, which is obviously fountain, where kid(s) can have fun. We saw how kids were having fun :)

Now I would like to give you details about travel.
Honestly I discovered Trenčin while checking available destinations (with bus) from Brno. And RegioJet's buses go directly from Brno to Trenčin. But its schedule is not so often.

Example booking table from RegioJet

So, then best and I guess then only option is departure at 10:00 from Brno (12:15 arrival) and departure at 16:40 from Trencin (back to Brno 19:10 arrival). Total 4 hours and 25 minutes for exploring city and castle, which is more than enough. In our case we even had to sit in cafe (Dubai Cafe) for 1 hour while waiting for bus. Most important: tickets could be sold out very fast, so consider purchasing even a week in advance. But if you are located in Bratislava, there are trains too.

All in all, I hope and believe if you visit, you will enjoy it too.

Thank you for reading my story.
