As a notaphilist, I want talk about Czech souvenir Euro banknotes.
In 2015, Richard Faille developed the idea of souvenir Euro notes made to the same standards as the currency, but without value - ZERO. These can then be sold at a profit to commemorate places or events. Since then these have become increasingly popular, and the European Central Bank has approved their printing. (source)
So far, till August 2018 there wasn't any souvenir Euro notes which related to Czech Republic. While Eurozone counties kept issuing many of them. Example, there are almost 70 notes from Slovakia. Last couple years even countries outside of Eurozone and even outside EU also released own notes.
In August 2018 first Czech Euro souvenir note has been issued, which shows Prague.
In May 27, 2019 The Liberec Zoo released the first souvenir banknote as the first zoo in the Czech Republic. The Liberec Zoo is the oldest zoo in the former Czechoslovakia and celebrated its 115th anniversary in 2019. The main motive of the banknote is the flag animals characteristic for the Liberec zoo - elephant, takin and vulture.
In July 14 2019 exclusive sale of Euro Souvenir banknotes KAREL GOTT, symbolically took place in the Supraphon publishing house Prague, which has been the publisher of Karel Gott's recordings since the 1960s.
I was on the queue from 5AM till 12PM. Click here to see news report from ČT24.
In September 6-7 2019 another banknote will be introduced as the second motive of the PRAGUE - Charles Bridge series.
All these notes were issued in limited quantity, 5000 and 10000, which makes their value much higher now. But that is the whole point of "limited edition". And they can be very nice gift.
I am sure that there will be more notes, with variety of motives. One of them I look forward is Brno of course!
